Kala Ranch Bull Sale

1:00 PM   April 14, 2020
Dawson Creek, BC

  • Welcome to Kala (pronounced kay-la) Ranch and our 2nd Bull Sale with VJV Auctions Dawson Creek.
  • We run a Purebred Registered Black Angus herd near Nojack, AB of 100-120 head. In 2019, we had our 10th Annual Bull Sale in Alberta and our first opportunity to service BC.
  • Even though we're both from multi-generational farm families, we didn't start breeding Black Angus until around 2005, when we quickly fell in love with the breed. Calving ease, docility, handling ease, sound feet, good udders, and milk production won us over as Geza worked up north to keep the farm afloat, and I held down my Nursing career and ran the farm. The latter, plus the renowned Nojack Spring gumbo, led us to calve in May and June.
  • Growing our herd slowly over the years allowed us to be more picky about genetics. The dam lineages are based primarily on sound maternal traits for tight udders, milk production and fertility. And because we live in muskeg, sire genetics are largely based on sound legs and feet. The Traveler line has served us really well for that reason and is more of the Aberdeen Angus lineage, our personal favorite for many reasons. Our commercial buyers wanted a little more frame, so we brought in the Jessy line for their cross-breeding programs.
  • Ranch raised, our bulls aren't pampered or pushed. You can be confident they have healthy livers/kidneys, virile fertility, sound legs/feet and longevity. They're raised on grass/hay with bull ration/grain from weaning on.
  • We have lots of return and volume buyers, as well as plenty of first timers. We're really pleased to be back in Dawson Creek and we're confident you'll find a bull to suit your needs. Please give us a call/text or email us if you have any questions.
